DMC: Devil May Cry Review

As its core, much of the same in the previous series is present in DMC. You collect red orbs by defeating enemies, finding hidden orbs, destroying certain objects throughout each level which then can be used to purchase items at the store either in intermission between missions or at various statues in the levels. You can upgrade your weapons with red orbs, making them stronger and purchase new abilities for Dante to add to his arsenal.

Tomb Raider

I’ve been playing video games most of my life and the one character I couldn’t ever see the merit of was Lara Croft. Sure, I owned the first game for the original PlayStation but I just hated the character. She was one dimensional and incredibly fake, and never seemed like a heroine anyone could really care about. This all changes with Crystal Dynamics’ reboot of the franchise- not since Red Dead Redemption’s John Marston have I actually cheered for a character this much. Tomb Raider is also the first triple A title for 2013.

Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch

Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch is a Japanese RPG developed by Level-5 in collaboration with legendary anime company Studio Ghibli, and published in North America by Namco Bandai exclusively for the Playstation 3. Now, it’s been a while since I’ve really devoted myself to an RPG, although I used to adore them when I was younger. Games like Final Fantasy II, VI and VII, and the original Dragon Warrior are still fondly remembered as some of my favorites of all time. Most of them are just on too grand of a scale though. It’s harder to make the kind of time investment these games usually require from a player than it used to be. I knew I wanted to make an exception for this title, however, since I am a big fan of the animated films Studio Ghibli produces.

Lego City Undercover

What is the appeal of a Lego game if it’s not the status of its identifiable licence? Is there gratification to be found in eternally punching bricks even if you’re not sporting a dusty fedora, cape and cowl, or some futuristic light sword? It’s a question that is surely rattling around in someone’s mind over at Nintendo as the publisher prepares to launch the first major deviation from the standard template of TT Games’ enduring series of joyous brick based platformers.
